Colours of Van Gogh >
Learn more about Atelier NL's handcrafted palette of 270 vibrant colours made from directly the earth in Nuenen, where Van Gogh lived and worked.
The town of Best in the southern Netherlands invited Atelier NL to create a locally inspired colour pallet for its future architectural and civil development. Based on carefully collected samples of sands, plants, and water from sources around the city, a unique array of local colours emerged. Browns, grays, blacks, and reds arose from local clays, soils, and sands. The vegetation of the town yielded a rich variety of greens. Tinted shades of water sources led to a pallet of whites. Atelier NL's field work in Best showcases the richness and variety of the natural colours found in this unique place - while providing a guiding standard for the future design of the city.
